BATANGAS JOB FAIR OPENS DOORS OF WORK OPPORTUNITIES FOR JOB SEEKERS FROM DIFFERENT SECTORS

For the 29-year-old Mr. Kelvin De Chavez, a job seeker from Mataasnakahoy, Batangas, being deaf is not an obstacle to reaching his dream of landing a new work that will enable him to earn and support his family. According to Mr. De Chavez, he never considered his physical challenges for him to stop striving for his career goals.

“I need [to] support my family [since] my parents don’t have jobs,” he remarked.

More than 500 aspirants, including Mr. De Chavez, participated in the Araw ng Kalayaan Job Fair held at the SM City Lipa, Batangas, on June 12.

With eagerness, he applied to different companies that offer positions involving tasks on encoding and using office software.

Among the first applicants who landed their jobs on the spot was Ms. Catherine Ann Robles from Lipa City, who recently graduated from Senior High School with a strand in Humanities and Social Science. As a first-time attendee of a job fair, Ms. Robles shared that she did not expect to land a new job as a production operator of a manufacturing company.

“Bago po ako pumunta dito kinakabahan po, syempre. Kinakabahan. Tapos nung nalaman ko po na hired on the spot po ako, syempre, masaya po ako kasi magkakatrabaho na po ako. Makakatulong na rin po ako sa magulang po, sa pagbabayad po ng kuryente, sa mga bills po sa bahay,” she shared.

Ms. Robles is one of the 102 workers who were hired on the spot (HOTS) during the Araw ng Kalayaan Job Fair with changed lives as they embarked on yet another milestone in their careers.

Aside from more than 12,000 vacancies from over 40 companies, the event initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment IV-A - Batangas Provincial Office, in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office of Lipa City and SM City Lipa, also offered a one-stop-shop with partners from the Social Security System, Philippine Statistics Authority, and the Pag-IBIG Fund.

With this kind of activity, the Department hopes to bridge decent employment opportunities to every Batangueno and in turn lower the unemployment rate of the country.
