Equipped with a degree but limited professional experience, young job seekers often face the challenge of competing for opportunities where even entry-level positions may require prior work experience.

For 23-year-old Lyka Eunice O. De Gala, a graduate of Batangas State University - The National Engineering University (BSU-TNEU) Lipa, this challenge became a reality. After graduation, she spent months searching for employment, submitting applications to various companies and exploring opportunities both near and far.

“As a fresh graduate, I found it difficult to find a job because I had no prior work experience, while many companies preferred applicants with experience,” Lyka recalled.

Her experience reflects a common hurdle faced by many young professionals: having the qualifications to begin a career, but struggling to find that first opportunity.

“It took me months and numerous applications to different positions, companies, and locations, whether near or far,” she further narrated.

A breakthrough came when Lyka came across an announcement on social media from the university and the official Job Placement Office (JPO) page.

The initiative provided students and graduates with opportunities to connect directly with partner employers, helping bridge the transition from academic life to the professional world.

For Lyka, the program offered exactly what she had been looking for, which is a direct avenue to employment and an opportunity to move beyond the “no experience” barrier.

Recognizing the potential of the opportunity, she submitted her application and took another step toward achieving her career goals.

What stood out to Lyka was the efficiency and responsiveness of the Job Placement Office.

“After submitting my resume, I received a response from the Job Placement Office on the same day informing me that my application had already been forwarded to the company I applied to. I appreciated how fast and helpful the process was,” Lyca shared.

For someone who had spent months navigating the job market, the timely response provided not only a concrete employment opportunity but also renewed confidence in her job search.

Through the JPO’s referral and placement process, Lyka successfully connected with an employer and secured a job, turning months of uncertainty into a meaningful first step toward her professional career.

For Lyka, however, the value of the experience went beyond receiving a job opportunity. The process also helped her develop the confidence and determination needed to navigate the early stages of her career.

“The program taught me to be more confident and proactive in looking for opportunities. It also encouraged me to keep trying despite the challenges of being a fresh graduate,” she shared.

Her story demonstrates how the transition from university to employment can become more manageable when graduates have access to timely guidance, meaningful opportunities, and connections to industry.

Lyka’s journey is a testament to what can happen when determination meets opportunity. While her degree provided the foundation for her career, the support and referral provided through the Job Placement Office helped create a bridge between her academic preparation and the workplace.

By connecting students and graduates with potential employers, BSU Lipa’s Job Placement Office continues to help make the transition from classroom to career more accessible and purposeful.
