DOLE BATANGAS CONVENES LAW ENFORCEMENT, SOCIAL WELFARE REPRESENTATIVES IN CHILD LABOR PREVENTION STAKEHOLDERS’ MEETING

To further strengthen awareness on child labor prevention initiatives and harmonize the actions from various national government agencies, representatives from various local social welfare and development offices, and the law enforcement offices attended the Stakeholders’ Meeting cum Learning Sessions on CLPEP Implementation and Sagip Batang Manggagawa held at the 3rd Floor, DOLE Batangas Provincial Office, Lipa City, Batangas, December 11.

The participants learned about international conventions, local laws, and policies governing child labor protection and elimination. Ms. April Magpantay, Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) Focal Person, discussed the child labor 101 module, to which the participants learned about the definition of child labor, as well as the proper determination of child labor incidence in various industries.
Another highlight of the activity centered on a discussion of the proper procedure for rescuing minors through the Sagip Batang Manggagawa (SBM). The learning session harmonized the roles of DOLE, PNP, and DSWD upon receipt of the information up until the post-rescue operations.
During the session, the participants learned the pre-operation, actual operation, and post-rescue actions of each national agency, as well as the local government unit representatives, who will provide a holistic approach in light of the mandate of upholding the best interests of the child.
The meeting also provided an open forum in which participants shared their respective existing initiatives on child protection and child labor elimination, as well as the possible collaboration moving forward.
Director Predelma Tan closed the activity through an inspirational message highlighting the inter-agency approach to combat child labor in the province.
The said activity is aligned with the continuous actions of the DOLE as part of its mandate under the Philippine Program Against Child Labor. #
