DOLE BATANGAS INTENSIFIES CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHILD LABOR THROUGH ONLINE LEARNING SESSION

As part of its continuous action in preventing and eliminating child labor in the province of Batangas, the Department of Labor and Employment IV-A through its Batangas Provincial Office conducted an online learning session during the kick off week of the National Children’s Month, November 6.

DOLE Batangas spearheaded a seminar on the salient features of Republic Act No. 9231 via teleconferencing platform.

In her opening remark, Ms. Necorita Anzaldo, Senior Labor and Employment Officer and OIC-Head of DOLE Batangas emphasized that the Department proactively initiates programs like this to strengthen its campaign to have a child-labor free province.

“Patuloy nating ipaglaban ang laban kontra child labor at sabay sabay nating gagawin lahat para mabigyan ng pag-asa at pagkakataon ang bawat Batangueno,” Ms. Anzaldo said.

The program then proceeded with the learning session proper to which, Ms. April Magpantay, Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) Focal Person,  shed light on the salient features of the law. Further, she discussed the faces of child labor in various industries as enumerated in the Department Order No. 149, Series of 2016, as amended by Department Order No. 149-A, Series of 2017.

An open forum for the question and answer as well as sharing of insights was also conducted which gave the attendees the opportunity to interactively participate with the discussion.

Several participants shared their initiatives to combat child labor in their respective localities.

The attendees, composed of local government unit employees, parents, children, and other stakeholders from various government agencies participated in the session.

This National Children’s Month, DOLE Batangas will also conduct art sessions, and a health caravan for profiled child laborers and their parents which will be held in the last week of November to culminate the month-long celebration of the children.#
