With the goal of establishing more functioning job placement offices in different higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country, several universities from the National Capital Region (NCR) underwent a benchmarking activity with the Hall of Fame Awardee in the Department of Labor and Employment’s Search for Best Public Employment Service Office (PESO), JPO category, the University of Batangas, held at the UB premises, April 11.
Mr. Vincent Alcantara, JPO Manager of the UB, started the benchmarking session through a presentation of their Lifelong Brahman Connection project which aims to efficiently track their graduates through online referral, walk-in services, and their tracer study.
Ms. Patricia Mei Bilog, Assistant Labor Inspector, actively introduced the Technical and Advisory Program and shared insights on general labor standards with participants.
Furthermore, Mr. Alcantara also shed light on ways they champion making their programs more accessible to both employers from different industries and job seekers from UB.
The benchmarking activity that we had with the University of the Philippines—Diliman, Polytechnic University of the Philippines—Paranaque, Quezon City University, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa served as our way of giving back to the community. By sharing our insights, experiences, and best practices, we hope to contribute to the continued growth and evolution of job placement practices in the country. We are honored to share what we have and support them on their journey to success, which will eventually have a lasting impact on the lives of our clients,” he remarked.
For the ways forward, the participating universities hope to strengthen their own job placement offices just like the University of Batangas.
Just like UB, having dominated the category with effective ways and practices in realizing their core functions including Referral and Placement, Career Advocacy and Employment Coaching, and promotion of Labor Market Information, DOLE hopes that the participating HEIs will also create JPOs that will leave a mark not only in the Search for Best PESO but more importantly in the lives of every job seeker that they will serve in the future.
