FORMER BATANGAS GIP INTERNS, NOW FULLY-PLEDGED GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES

Through the Department of Labor and Employment’s initiative of implementing its Government Internship Program (GIP), three of the program beneficiaries landed their dream roles in public service at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Batangas.

“Dating namamasada, ngayun, LTO employee na.”

Looking back on how he juggled work and study, he narrated that those experiences have made him more determined to win in life. A year ago, Merck Dizon, managed to apply and be one of DOLE’s GIP trainees.

During his six-month internship, he quickly learned the processes involved in the frontline services of LTO. According to Merck, he has also honed his skills in talking to people from different walks of life.

Eventually, GIP paved the way to enter a government institution, from an intern to an organic employee. This has also helped him to be equipped with skills in computer programs which has made him more efficient in his work in LTO.

Having this quote by heart, “When it feels scary to jump, that is exactly when you jump, otherwise you end up staying in the same place your whole life, and that I can't do”, he encourages those who have a fear of trying something new or out of their comfort zone.

He advised everyone to be braver in taking risks in life, especially at work, as this has become his stepping stone towards success.

“GIP ang naging way para mapunta ako sa isang magandang ahensya ng gobyerno”, she narrated.

As a GIP trainee for a year she relayed that through this program, she was able to land a permanent job in LTO. Aside from life skills, she has also learned how to be more calm and composed, while emphasizing thoroughly the responsibilities of LTO to impose rules for everyone’s safety.

As an Administrative Aide IV today, Rose hopes and aspires to be with LTO until she retires, for it is her life-long passion to serve the people through a government institution.

Just like Merck and Rose, Darwin Masangkay is one of those GIPs who is now part of LTO.

Darwin stated that aside from his learning, the GIP stint also gave him hope that fresh graduates like him have a chance to be part of the government. He believes that working for the government is a great opportunity as it promises a better future and job security.

Merck, Rose, and Darwin are living proofs of the effectiveness of the DOLE’s program in the provision of opportunities for young workers to demonstrate their skills and capabilities to be of service to every Filipino, from internship stints to full-time work as public servants.
